[Strategy Block] - Watch the full video tutorial for the SEO & Research View!
Your business, channel, or site has a core area where you're trying to help people and build authority. Whatever it is - productivity, finance, Pokemon cards - there are many sub-topics that you'll want to cover and where - ideally - you'll want to rank highly.
Each of those sub-topics has one or more keywords which people search for on Google, Youtube, and other places. Use this view to brainstorm and identify keywords. This will help you ensure that your content is covering all of the sub-topics that your audience is searching for.
You can then attach these keywords to content projects. There is a relation to the Master Content Tracker called Associated Content. Content projects that have a certain Focus Keyword will be related to that keyword in the Keywords database. Using the Keyword template, you'll be able to see all projects that are associated with that keyword.
Focus Keywords have another use - they define Related Content. Every content project has a Related Content section, which shows you all projects that have the same Focus Keyword from right within the project itself. This is useful for planning companion content - e.g. a companion blog post or Tweet thread for a video.
Keywords may have many variations that you'll want to list and track. You can use the Parent Keyword template in this database to create a page with its own table for Long Tail Keywords. For example, if "personal finance apps" is your parent, then "iOS personal finance apps" would be a long-tail keyword. You may or may not want to track that.
There are many SEO research tools that can help you research and prioritize keywords. The one I use is called Ahrefs, and is where you can get the Difficulty and Volume numbers.
Since I make a lot of search-driven how-to content, keyword research is a key part of my strategy. If you want to learn to do it effectively, you should take Matt Giovanisci's SEO for Bloggers course (affiliate link - I'll earn a commission if you use this, at no extra cost to you). It breaks down pretty much the exact strategy that I use (often for YouTube videos as well as blog posts).

Keyword Notes
[Tutorial Block] - The Keyword Notes area simply collects any Notes that are associated with Keywords. This area is Grouped by Keyword, so you can easily add new notes to different keywords without switching between Keyword pages. If you don’t see a group for an existing Keyword you want, use the Add a Group button at the bottom of the view to search for and add it.
