Today I read Life Without Principle by Henry David ThoreauHenry David Thoreau. It was really good. I didn’t find it as strong as most of Emerson’s essays, but it was still very good. The essay was full of powerful and meliorating thought, and it was better than most things I’ve read.

I listened to this podcast, UNEXPECTED CONVERSATION: Alfred Hitchcock, for around 15 minutes while going for a bike ride. It inspired me to want to begin pursuing filmmaking again. Hearing Alfred Hitchcock talk about his craft was lovely. I want to finish it soon. Later, I came home desperate for something to revive my soul which was feeling downtrodden. I was going to pick the Bible, but I felt compelled to pick up the Sermons of Samuel JohnsonSamuel Johnson. I opened the book and immediately flipped to Sermon 14. I read the first line and knew this was a fated encounter. God had sent me exactly what I needed. Sermon 14 was all about how one can find happiness (if you want to read my notes click on the title).

Today I watched Joe Rogan Experience #2221 - JD Vance. It was really good. He seems intelligent, humble, and well-spoken.

Today I began reading Leaves of Grass— 1891-1892. I read from “One’s-Self I Sing” to chapter 15 of “Song of Myself.” The last poem I finished was “Starting from Paumanok.”
