What I Learned Today?

Russian Culture and Reading.

I had an encounter with a Russian lady at the farmer’s market today. We talked for maybe 30 minutes. She taught me plenty because she was so well-educated. She was very well read and there was one story in particular I enjoyed. She was telling me about how in the Soiet Union books were extremely hard to come by, so when she came across one, she’d sit down with it, and not relent until it was complete. With this in mind, she told me a story about when she had converted to Christianity.

After she became a Christian, she began meeting with a mentor once a week. Her mentor was American, and during their first session she gave her a Bible, then told her the importane of reading it and gave her an assignment. The next week she showed up for her class and her teacher asks how she enjoyed the first half of Genesis, and she looks at her stunned. She tells her teacher that the first half of Genesis was great, but she enjoyed the Gospels better. She had read the whole Bible in a week. This was what the pressures of her culture had grown her accustomed to. I want to start reading books with that kind of urgency.

Any Interesting Thoughts, Experiences, Insights, or Emotions?

Adam was a Man Before He was a Mate

I had an interesting insight the other day. I was feeling lonesome and I was praying for a partner. Then I felt God place the story of Adam in my heart and I began analyzing it. He showed me that Adam was already a mature, diligent man before he created Eve for him, He showed me that this was the natural process and that there was no use in rushing into a relationship. He showed me that I should be happy for this season of maturation and self-developement.

Then, last night I went to a Billard’s Bar ith my friend and we were shooting pool and having a good time. Through the course of the night, I had two great conversations with two black men who were both happily married. One of them, in particular, told me one of the best love storied I had ever heard. He has been married to his wife for 35 years and the story of how they met and stayed together melted my heart. The story encouraged me to stay the course, to continue down the path of virtue, and that Fate will lead the way.

Did I Make Something?

Today, I edited and made eight of my VMA homwork videos. All of the footage from my shoot with Nathan the other day. I still have a lot to get down tomorrow though before my class on Monday.
